Merdeka With Meaning: senQ’s Promise for People, Planet & the Future

August hits different, right? 

It’s not just about public holidays, waving the Jalur Gemilang, or eating all the satay you can handle. Merdeka month is a vibe, a reminder that we’re all part of something bigger: Malaysia. And at senQ, we believe being Malaysian means doing our part to make this place better for everyone. 

That’s why we’re turning up the volume on our ESG commitment — Environment, Social, and Governance — to keep our planet clean, our people supported, and our future bright. 

Here’s how we’re keeping it real this Merdeka 

Environment: Love the Earth, Keep the Magic

Malaysia’s beauty is unmatched — from dreamy islands to firefly-lit rivers. But without proper care, these treasures could fade away faster than your phone battery at 1%. 

At senQ, we’re on a mission to protect that beauty. One way we’re doing it? Supporting the Sayang Kelip-Kelip project with FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia). This 3-year initiative helps research and protect firefly habitats that are under threat from pollution and development. 

In our stores, we’re also taking steps to be eco-friendlier: 

• E-receipts to cut paper use 

• Solar powered stores at selected outlets 

• Smarter carbon footprint management 

Because a greener Malaysia = a cooler (literally!) Malaysia. 

Social: People Helping People 

We get it — life’s not always smooth sailing. Some Malaysians face real struggles, and if we can help, we will. 

This Merdeka, senQ is donating school bags, shoes, and water bottles to students from B40 families in four schools across the country. A small boost, but one that we hope makes a big difference when the new school year kicks in. 

Not our first rodeo, though — in the past, we’ve: 

• Sent aid to flood victims 

• Provided essentials for underprivileged communities 

Because Merdeka is about standing together — and that includes lifting each other up. 

Governance: Leading With Values 

This year marks a big shift for our parent company, Senheng. On 1 August 2025, our Chairman KH Lim stepped into the role of Managing Director, bringing fresh energy and a clear focus on values.
